Since opening its first store in Los Angeles, California in 2009, UMAMI BURGER® is a hamburger restaurant that has expanded to four countries, including Japan. The "UMAMI" in "UMAMI BURGER®" comes from the Japanese word for umami, and the hamburgers were named "UMAMI BURGER®" because founder Adam Fleischman established a cooking method that maximizes the umami flavor. UMAMI BURGER® has been selected as the "Best Burger of the Year 2010" by the American edition of GQ and was also named one of Time magazine's "17 Most Influential Burgers of All Time," making it a very popular hamburger shop in the United States.
